Louise Poulsom Illustration and Hand Painted Glass
Louise Poulsom

I qualified in Illustration at Leeds Metropolitan University and now specialise in children's illustration.

My favourite projects are those where I am able to work with figurative illustration. I learned to draw people by stalking my prey like a big cat with a notepad, perching in obscure areas ready to scribble. Markets, bus-stations, train-stations, town centres, bars, cafes, playgrounds, festivals and shops were some of my frequent haunts but having a sketchpad always on hand meant I captured some interesting moments and blessed me with a lifetime of inspiration for future work.

I work with pencil, dip pen, rotring pen and ballpoint pen. For colour work I add colour digitally using Photoshop which gives a bold colour and makes amendments swift and simple.

I am always happy to discuss projects. My work has been published in a chapter book called 'Penina's Plan' and I am currently working on my own book between commissions.

My young family keep me hugely entertained and inspired. We brainstorm ideas together and I have the best group of professional critics that any children's illustrator could wish for!
